Smoking Ban in the Czech Republic, Coming Soon

SMOKING BANS ARE STEADILY BECOMING THE RULE THROUGHOUT THE PLANET, AND THAT MAY INCLUDE THE CZECH REPUBLIC VERY SOON. SO HOW IS THIS GOING TO AFFECT THE INDOOR AND OUTDOOR LIFESTYLE OF PEOPLE?

Smoking has been linked with social gatherings for a very long time; however, it has also been linked with a multitude of health problems and serious diseases. And while everyone has the freedom to choose whether to start smoking or not, sometimes non-smokers are trapped in indoor environments contaminated with smoke and suffer from the dangers of second-hand smoking.

Many countries around the world have taken this fact upon consideration, and since the beginning of 20th century many societies were formed to discourage smoking in several countries — including the Bund Deutscher Tabakgegner in the Bohemian area. However, only in the last few decades have governments started to seriously vote and impose smoke-free laws, and gradually more and more countries are banning smoking from public spaces and from indoor spaces such as restaurants, cafes and bars.

Modern Czech Republic is still falling behind on having a strong policy against smoking in public spaces. Currently, the only law in force is the one that restricts smoking in some public places such as institutions, hospitals, bus stops and other public service stops, but not in restaurants, bars and clubs. Since July 2010, the only measurement taken was the obligation to keep signs or stickers that signified whether and where are the non-smoking zones in restaurants, but still no regulation is forbidding smoking indoors. Efforts since then to follow the other European nations with explicit legislations on banning smoking have come to nothing.

This will probably change very soon. Smoking might be completely banned in Czech pubs and restaurants as from 2016, under a bill proposed by Health Minister Svatopluk Němecek. His proposal will suggest a total ban of smoking in public areas, thusly changing the face of social outings in the Czech Republic — no more dimly-lit pubs filled with choking smoke, no more torture for non-smokers. This can only leave one option if restaurants and cafes don’t want to lose their smoking clientele but also not violate the law; outside seating. (For the details on IDNES.cz, please click here.)

This only leaves the option of a clean, safe and efficient heating device for open spaces — Galavito RESTO. Our heating table can create a warm and cozy environment for outdoor spaces, no matter how harsh the weather conditions may be. So everyone can enjoy seating outside and smokers and nonsmokers won’t have to be splitted or suffer from each other ever again! Can outside seating be a saving option for the smokers? With the weather conditions though the year, in a first glance it seems that only during the summer months will they be able to enjoy more than one cigarette before freezing from the cold weather. Gas heaters are a very dangerous option to heating an area surrounded by smokers, since they impose a major fire hazard; much like in a gas station, nobody should be smoking around a source of flammable gas.
